The great commission according to all gospels

Postby toddvetter » Sun Sep 27, 2009 3:27 am

The Great Commission according to the four bible gospels NKJV.

Matthew 28 (Great commission given in Galilee according to Matt)
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee , to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore[c] and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

In Matthew The great Commission occurs in Galilee and also contains the only written testimony to support the Christian Trinity concept. This event allegedly occurred just before the Ascension of Christ implying the ascension occurred in Galilee which would be consistent with gospel of Nicodemus as far as location. Other Gospels place the Ascension of Christ on the mount of Olives which is less than 2 miles from the temple mount. There is over 60 miles of Distance from Galilee and the Mount of Olives . Other Gospels also Imply the Great Commission occurred on the day of resurrection in the upper Room within Jerusalem .

Mark 16 (great Commission implied to have been given in the upper Room)
Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they[b] will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Luke 24 (Commission in Jerusalem upper Room on the day of Resurrection)
46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise[h] from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem . 48 And you are witnesses of these things. 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem[i] until you are endued with power from on high.”

John 20 (Commission given in upper Room on the day of Resurrection)
21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

G-12 on Great Commission
Lection LXXXVII
6. Then saith Jesus unto them again, Peace be unto you, as Abba Amma hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this he breathed on them and said unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost; preach the Gospel, and announce ye unto all nations; the resurrection of the Son of Man. 7. Teach ye the holy law of love which I have delivered unto you. And whosoever forsake their sins, they are remitted unto them, and whosoever continue in their sins they are retained unto them. 8. Baptize them who believe and repent, bless and anoint them, and offer ye the pure Oblation of the fruits of the earth, which I have appointed unto you for a Memorial of me.

More to the commission

Lection LXXXVIII
AND after seven days again, his disciples were within the Upper Room; then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in their midst and said, Peace be unto you, and he was known unto them in the holy Memorial. And he said unto them. Love ye one another and all the creatures of God. Yet I say unto you, not all are men, who are in the form of man. Are they men or women in the image of God whose ways are ways of violence, of oppression and wrong, who choose a lie rather than the truth? Nay, verily, till they are born again, and receive the Spirit of Love and Wisdom within their hearts. Then only are they sons and daughters of Israel , and being of Israel they are children of God, And for this cause came I into the world, and for this I have suffered at the hands of sinners.
These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. And Jesus said, I stood in the midst of the world, and in the flesh was I seen and heard, and I found all men glutted with their own pleasures, and drunk with their own follies, and none found I hungry or athirst for the wisdom which is of God. My soul grieveth over the sons and daughters of men because they are blind in their heart, and in their soul are they deaf and hear not my voice. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures. And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved the Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead after the third day. And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in my name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem . And ye are witnesses of these things.

Gospel of Nicodemus on the Great commission has The commission being given on the day of Ascension. Ascension occurring in Galilee and sharing word for word testimony with the gospel of Mark. Mark However implies the Commission was Given on the day of Resurrection in Jerusalem.

Gospel of Nicodemus:
Now a certain priest named Phinees and Addas a teacher and Aggaeus (Ogias Copt., Egias lat.) a Levite came down from Galilee unto Jerusalem and told the rulers of the synagogue and the priests and the Levites, saying: We saw Jesus and his disciples sitting upon the mountain which is called Mamilch (Mambre or Malech lat., Mabrech Copt.), and he said unto his disciples: Go into all the world and preach unto every creature (the whole creation): he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that disbelieveth shall be condemned. [And these signs shall follow upon them that believe: in my name they shall cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues, they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them: they shall lay hands upon the sick and they shall recover.] And while Jesus yet spake unto his disciples we saw him taken up into heaven.

I Would love your thoughts on why the Great Commission changes testimony and geographical location according to the gospel telling the story?

Can truth for a single event vary by 60+miles geographically?

Is your answer to the two prior Questions truth from God which God's children can receive when they are his children who HEAR his voice, or speculations to justify a tradition that the bible is The perfect word of God?

Thanks for ur post toddvetter,

Could it be that Christ spoke similar words to different /same group(s) at different locations ?
It is surprising to hear the AUTHENTIC 'variety' of descriptions from eyewitnesses to a motor vehicle accident on the local news cast.

Is this the case of the gospels writers as they recorded the the death and resurrection of Christ? if they are mearely recording the perceptions of men then they are not inspired by the holy spirit. The holy spirit does not author confusion and brings to rememberance all truth. The holy spirit can accurately fortell future events for a person who will never exist long enought to see the event in fulfilment.

Why then do we have 4 half truths for the death and resurrection? who inspires half truths?

The NT tells us there is only one true gospel of Christ and our bible has 4 and they do not always agree. How much more of those 4 gospels that do not always agree speak half the truth you need to be filled with the spirit of God, be of the truth, and hear God's voice.

God Bless

Mr Elijah,
Todd Vetter is not quoting the authentic Gospel of Twelve, but Ouseley's forgery of it. People who listen to and accept such rubbish are as stupid as the people who spout it.
The fact that I mistakenly at first jumped to the conclusion that he was using Notovitch's forgery instead of Ouseley's forgery does not diminish the fault in the least. Todd Vetter has made a big fuss about me accusing him falsely, but the fact remains that he is referring to a late 19th-century forgery. Which late 19th-century forgery he is referring to is irrelevant.
Private interpretation seems to destroy the human capacity to reason. Vetter thinks that his use of Ouseley's forgery is justified, because I accidentally accused him of using Notovitch's forgery. He wants to discuss that ad infinitum, but has never offered the least apology for using Ouseley's forgery. He keeps doing it no matter how often the fault is pointed out. Thus we see how private interpretation destroys brain cells.
But I'm the really stupid person here. I waste my time talking to Protestants, people completely devoid of both common and rare sense.

James, those are the people to talk to - perchance u may instill some into them.
Todd, from what i can recall of most of the prophets - many brought messages which they themselves were NOT privy to fully understand - they were mere messengers -
Creator expects us to study to show ourselves approved - line upon line, precept upon precept, ---- EAT up the book - it will be sweet in your mouth - maybe bitter in the belly ---

The use of Ousely's translation of the Gospel of the twelve is justified by illustrating evidence of Time specific prophecy fulfilment where the 4 bible gospels in concert with traditional Christian testimomies have fallen short by illustrating various degrees of speculation that misrepresent what Christ spoke regarding the Laws of Moses and his stary in the tomb. James you still have not illustrated a page of testimony where I do not share objective truth. Though opinions can be importantant in some cases.. you have to ask what part of the parible of the sower and the seed you are playing prevy too.

Though this parible is broken up between bible gospels there is a more complete telling of this story in the G-12 text. I recomend reading it to find out what prophecy you fulfill since it is a prophecy for all men. In the end we are all wheat or tares. God will divide at the harvest.

Page 28 illustrates why it's a physical imposibility for the Gospel of the twelve to be a forgery by Ousely. So you are still baring false witness by claiming Ousely fraudulantly wrote the G-12 text. It's a legitimate peice of Christian history and important for dispelling speculations regarding the 4 bible gospels that Christians have made a tradition based on assumptions.

Just because the Gospel of the Twelve is mentioned in historical sources does not mean that every time someone makes a forgery of a lost gospel the forgery must be accepted. Are you some kind of idiot? Ousley's forgery is a forgery and has nothing to do with the Gospel of Twelve mentioned in bona fide historical documents, just because he named it that. What an idiot!
Ousley doesn't even claim to have translated the true Gospel of Twelve mentioned in historical sources, he claims to have translated a document found in a Tibetan monastery. What's an authentic gospel doing in a Buddhist monastery in Tibet in the 19th century, where no one can verify it? So typical of forgeries of the time. Man, any idiot can dupe you, but you don't have the capacity to see simple truth. Get a brain.

James,
Us Protestants, although in your opinion, devoid of any kind of sense, can at least quickly 'sense' hostility and arrogance, which really brings no benefit to the advancement of any discussion. Your forceful approach does make for interesting reading -- (sometimes - even when they are outright jokes or utter ---sense) -- BUT -- we can really do without the Popish or Pope - et type of abusiveness which might eventually drive all from even reading such posts.
Because we don't possess the full knowledge and scholarship of the 'all knowing' 'MOTHER' Church, and we like 'dumb' sheep have rather chosen to heed our Shepherd's voice to 'COME OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE' and not remain her Daughters, most of us are here to learn and to share.
The gentler the better is my humble opinion. This has been my personal experience here - harsh words create enemies, soft words can 'melt' enemies and make them into friends - even when we disagree - let us at least agree to disagree - who knows - given time we might even fully agree!!
It helps in every way if, at least most times, we to stick to 'a soft answer turneth away wrath' -- suffice it to say - that mode works best with any question or statement.

toddvetter,
I share your opinion that there are 'apparent' inconsistencies in the gospel accounts surrounding the death and resurrection.
As to taking sides on which sources of information are genuine or not - i leave that to the higher authorities --- for the time being.
The enemy has never been asleep, and while he cannot clearly see the future, he certainly knows how to manipulate his pawns who occupy the seats of power - (we fight against principalities and powers) - to bring about confusion which can result in disbelief by the scrutinizing soul.
Your posts will certainly help many to think 'outside the box' of the 'authorized' canon. Question is - authorized by whom, and in whose interest?

Shalom
